EASE OF LIVING INDEX, MUNICIPAL PERFORMANCE INDEX LAUNCHED FOR CITIES

  • The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), has launched, two Assessment Frameworks, viz. Ease of Living Index (EoLI) and Municipal Performance Index (MPI) 2019.
  • The motive is to assess quality of life of citizens in 100 Smart Cities and 14 other Million Plus Cities.
  • This will empower the cities to use evidence to plan, implement them & then monitor their performance.

 

U-19 CRICKET WORLD CUP FINAL: BANGLADESH BEATS INDIA TO LIFT TITLE FOR FIRST TIME

  • Even as India lost to Bangladesh in a close Under-19 World Cup final, Yashasvi Jaiswal stood out once again and was adjudged the man of the tournament.
  • The 18-year old, finished the tournament as the highest scorer with 400 runs to his name and a valiant 88 in the final.

 

HYDERABAD METRO RAIL BECOMES SECOND LARGEST METRO NETWORK IN INDIA

  • With the launch of another 11-km stretch on, Hyderabad Metro Rail has become the second largest metro rail network in the country after Delhi.
  • Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao flagged off of the metro train on Green Line stretch from Jubliee Bus Station (JBS) to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), connecting the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
  • Hyderabad Metro Rail, the world’s largest public-private partnership project, is now the second largest operational metro network in the country covering 69.2 kms.
  • Hyderabad Metro Rail Project is constructed by LARSEN & TOUBRO.

 

LPG COVERAGE REACHES 96.9% AS ON JAN. 1: OIL MINISTER PRADHAN

  • There are about 27.5 crore LPG or cooking gas connections in the country and the coverage has reached 96.9 per cent as on January 1 this year.
  • 8 crore connections out of the  27.5 crore LPG connections in the country. have been done under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY),” Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha.

 

 

PHILIP BARTON APPOINTED BRITAIN’S NEW HIGH COMMISSIONER TO INDIA

  • Britain appointed career diplomat Philip Barton as its High Commissioner to India to succeed Dominic Asquith.
  • Barton will take up his appointment during Spring 2020, a statement from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said.
