Early Life and Education
Mohammed Shafi Pandit was a very good student. From the start, he wanted to bring about a revolution in the city. Everyone was shocked when he made history in 1969 by becoming the first Muslim IAS officer from Jammu and Kashmir. His achievement was significant in a region where representation in civil services for Muslims was limited.
Career of Mohammed Shafi Pandit
When he cleared the UPSC and became an officer, he served in important positions within the government of Jammu and Kashmir. He also held the position of Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission and even became the Chief Secretary of the state. He played a crucial role in implementing the Mandal Commission report while serving as Joint Secretary in the Government of India in 1992. Mohammed Shafi Pandit’s contribution to public service is immeasurable. Unfortunately, he passed away on September 19, 2024. He was a true inspiration to all aspirants who wanted to clear the UPSC. Our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, also praised his contribution.
