1. AMIT SHAH PRESENTS PRESIDENT’S COLOUR TO GOA POLICE –

• Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah conferred the President’s Colour on Goa Police in Panaji on September 7, 2026, for the force’s eight decades of dedicated service, bravery and professionalism. The conferment ceremony brought into focus the many technology-enabled policing measures adopted in Goa, which include an AI-powered call agent for the 1930 cyber fraud helpline and swift emergency services by way of 112. Amit Shah commended the Goa Police force’s performance according to the criminal laws and also encouraged them to take the lead in the government’s Nasha Mukt Bharat 2029 initiative.

Why Goa Police Received the President’s Colour

• The President’s Colour is an honor that is bestowed on police forces for their outstanding services and professional conduct.
• According to Amit Shah, this honour was bestowed upon the Goa Police for its dedicated service over eight decades. The Goa Police has been instrumental in ensuring internal security, protecting Goa’s long coastlines and securing the lives of the tourists visiting the state.
• Amit Shah also paid tribute to police personnel Balaram Shinde, Abhishek Sher, Shailesh Gaonkar and Vishwas B. Deykar, who sacrificed their lives while serving the state police force.

2. SWACHH VAYU SARVEKSHAN 2026: CITY RANKINGS, SCORES AND WARD-LEVEL AWARDS –

• Lucknow tops among the million-plus cities in the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2026 with respect to steps taken to curb air pollution. Indore and Jabalpur have been awarded the second and third positions, respectively. The annual survey rates cities and towns for the measures taken to mitigate major sources of air pollution, namely road dust, construction debris, vehicular and industrial pollution.
• The findings also bring out a crucial point. A city may rank high on the criteria of measures taken to control air pollution, without having achieved the stipulated ambient air quality standards.

Topping Million-Plus Cities

• Lucknow topped in the ranking with a score of 198 in Category-I, which consists of cities with populations exceeding 10 lakh.
• Measures taken by Lucknow includes,
• Enhancing the usage of electric vehicles in waste collection.
• Use of mechanized road sweepers to curb dust.
• Managing legacy-waste.
• Steps to reduce major sources of particulate pollution.
• Indore, which holds the top position among Indian cities in Swachh Survekshan rankings for cleanliness, came second with a score of 197. Jabalpur bagged third position with a score of 195.

3. EXERCISE VEER GUARDIAN 2026 BEGINS IN JODHPUR –

• This is the second edition of Exercise Veer Guardian 2026 which is an air exercise that is conducted jointly by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). It will be held between September 9th and September 22nd, 2026 at the Air Force Station Jodhpur. The exercise seeks to build interoperability, synergy, and mutual understanding between the two air forces. The Japanese forces have already arrived in India with two C-2 transport aircraft from JASDF having landed at the Jodhpur airport.

What Is Exercise Veer Guardian 2026?

• Exercise Veer Guardian is an air exercise that is performed by India and Japan on a bilateral level. This edition enables the personnel from both the Indian Air Force and Japanese Air Self-Defense Force to interact and learn about each other’s operation methods.
• The exercise is going to be held for two weeks at Air Force Station Jodhpur, where both the air forces will come together for training.

4. 18TH BRICS SUMMIT 2026 –

• The 18th BRICS Summit 2026 will take place in New Delhi on September 12–13, 2026, and will represent an essential milestone in India’s participation in the group of developing nations. India became the BRICS Chairman for the year 2026 on January 1, 2026, and is taking advantage of its year-long chairmanship to promote cooperation in resilience, innovation, sustainability, and development. The official diplomatic documents of India confirm that the summit in 2026 is being planned for New Delhi under India’s BRICS chairmanship, which is themed “Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.”

• The summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan, one of the largest convention and exhibition complexes in New Delhi.

5. INDIA CLARIFIES STAND ON UN MAP RESOLUTION AND KASHMIR –

• The India UN Map Resolution controversy came to notice as New Delhi supported a United Nations resolution aimed at achieving better accuracy in mapping the world. New Delhi supported the proposal, yet clarified that it was only in relation to using equal-area map projections. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the voting did not imply endorsement of any specific world map or change in its stand on borders. It is also worth noting that India made it clear that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh should be depicted according to the Indian map.

Why Does India Back the UN Map Resolution?

• India backs the cartographic principle underlying the UN map resolution, which encourages map-making with accurate relative sizes of the landmasses.
• The resolution, tabled by Togo, is called “Correct the Map: Rebalancing Global Cartographic Representation and Promotion of Equitable Representation of the World’s Regions, Particularly Africa.”
• The resolution encourages cartographers to think more about the use of equal area projections, which try to depict continents’ relative sizes better than projections like Mercator projection.
• The UN General Assembly passed the resolution by 164 votes to 1, with the USA being the only country opposing the resolution.
